I like choices; I like to peruse a big array of 'stuff' and pick the item that best fits my fancy. So when we start talking about the government I get very frustrated as our choices are two and in the end of the day it’s really only one… BIG GOVERNMENT. For the purposes of the blog we’ll call it FG (the G stands for Government and the F… lets let you decide what that stands for).
Stealing from the hard working citizenry to pay for pet pork barrel projects was never the charter for the federal government. Every day I hear about the feds ‘saving’ us from the next catastrophe. Whether its terrorists, hurricanes, bailing out airlines in a nosedive and banks going broke or taking over banks (can you say socialism). The big FG is there to save the day.
How did we get this way you might ask… I have an idea that I will touch on, but it’s much deeper than that. I won’t go into conspiracy theories, although I do find some of them very plausible, I’m just going to stick to observations. As we’ve changed from an agrarian society to an industrial society and as we’ve opened our borders and let legal and illegal immigrants poor through, the population as a whole has shifted to the cities. As city people tend to be more reliant on the government we wind up with a people as a whole more willing to rely on the government for their needs. Since we’ve given the FG the major roll and taken it away from the states we no longer have a republic (for the people by the people) but a socialistic state (for the government by the government). The other thing I think happened is that the Church allowed the FG to take over social programs. Lastly I think we the people let the FG take over the schools. What was the original charter for the G before it became the FG? For starters we are a republic, not a democracy. Anything short or varied from that is against the constitution.
Some things I firmly believe regarding the FG and local government:
- The FG has three charters:
o Provide for the defense of the nation as a whole
o Mediate issues between states
o Mediate issues with foreign governments
- States maintain all other rights and duties to their citizenry.
- All money given the federal government should be given through the state governments and not directly by its people.
- It’s up to the states as to how to tax their people
- If we have to pay a national tax then it should either be a flat tax or a national sales tax either one will do away with loop holes and with the great evil called the IRS.
- Can you say term limits. For all hired officials. Politics was never meant to be a profession. I think six to ten years should be the max lifetime involvement.
- No retirement for politicians and pay based on median US income.
I could go on and will in the future, but let’s look at where we’ve sunk… Marx and Engels could not be more proud… why don’t we list the ten Planks of the Communist Manifesto bringing about bringing on the fall of capitalism into communism:
1. Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes.
2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.
3. Abolition of all right of inheritance.
4. Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels.
5. Centralization of credit in the hands of the State, by means of a national bank with State capital and an exclusive monopoly.
6. Centralization of the means of communication and transport in the hands of the State.
7. Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the State; the bringing into cultivation of waste-lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan.
8. Equal liability of all to labor. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture.
9. Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries; gradual abolition of the distinction between town and country, by a more equable distribution of the population over the country.
10. Free education for all children in public schools.
Looks like we have all the Planks in place to squelch all our rights and do away with what our country was founded on. Sun Tzu couldn’t be more accurate when he wrote: To subdue the enemy without fighting is the supreme excellence. We’ve been subdued from within, most excellently I might add. Like the frog in the pot as long as the water comes to a slow boil… contentment sublime… I think the water is starting to bubble, time to put it on ice.

Thoughtful, well-written post. It's scary when you talk about the Communist Manifesto and how well it aligns with our sovereign and "free" nation.
With all the government takeovers lately, the FG is becoming more and more focused on F-ing what we call a free society.
You live in Austin, so you must be fuming at what the city council is considering: forcing homeowners to purchase an "energy audit" before selling a home. And maybe even forcing them to pay for the audit's recommended energy upgrades before they can sell.
What more can they regulate? (That may be the most dangerous question of all.)
